Siri marriage is a marriage that is not recognized by the state. The understanding of unregistered marriage that is developing in Indonesia states that unregistered marriage is a marriage that is performed according to Islam, but is not recorded at the Office of Religious Affairs (KUA).

The definition of unregistered marriage and the law itself is still a matter of dispute among Islamic school scholars. Malikiyah school scholars define unregistered marriage as a marriage ordered by the husband and the witnesses keep it a secret for the wife or congregation, even the family. In this view, keeping the marriage a secret is done to avoid unwanted things when announcing it.

According to this school of thought, the law on unregistered marriage is haram because Rasulullah SAW ordered the spread of news about marriage.

The Ash-Shafi’iyah school of thought also does not allow the practice of unregistered marriage. They prefer broadcasting weddings.
