Organizers officially opened a dedicated teacher supply pantry on Thursday morning at the L Street Self Storage facility, converting two storage units into a free storefront stocked with art supplies, cleaning products, and instructional materials.
The initiative addresses a widespread financial hurdle for local educators, many of whom routinely spend their own money to purchase basic supplies for their students. While the formal launch took place Thursday, organizers have scheduled an ongoing “Stock the Pantry” donation drive through the end of August to secure enough inventory to sustain classrooms through the entire academic year and beyond.
The facility is currently accepting community donations of essential classroom items, including pencils, folders, creativity tools, instructional aids, and hygiene products. Donors can drop off supplies directly at the L Street Self Storage location in Chula Vista between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. every day except Sundays.

“This honestly blows my mind because I’ve never heard of something like this,” Lani said. “I think as teachers we’re always looking for resources. My husband can attest that I spend a lot of money of my own for my students because I don’t want to ask parents and I don’t want students to be without.”
