Caixa Geral de Depósitos made the final assessment of today’s strike.

Thus, the People Management and Development Department (DPE) of Caixa Geral de Depósitos, with regard to its impact on its customers, reveals that “adherence to the strike was not very significant”.

“In terms of participation in the strike, according to the record of the DPE, the entity responsible for processing salaries at Caixa, this was not very significant, being only a fraction of the numbers released by union structures, which are far from reality”, reveals the bank’s statement.

The number of transactions carried out in the different Caixa Geral de Depósitos channels reached 3.2 million, a value that compares with 3 million transactions on the same day last year and with the 2.6 million transactions registered yesterday.

“Taking into account the importance of customer service, CGD’s telephone platform recorded the best day ever in terms of service”, adds the bank.

CGD even says that 92% of all branches were open, covering almost the entire Portuguese population. In the case of Company Offices, 100% were open.

In a statement, Caixa Geral de Depósitos says that “it will remain committed to creating the best conditions for its employees, aware that its human capital is essential to adopt the necessary transformations to face the challenges facing the Institution”.

Hundreds of workers protested this Friday afternoon at the headquarters of the Caixa Geral de Depósitos bank. At a time when the bank’s profits have soared, workers are demanding salary increases in line with this increase in profits.

“Since the Strike is an unshakable right, CGD cannot, however, fail to regret that it runs the risk of being perceived as politicized” says the bank led by Paulo Macedo again, which considers it difficult to frame when it is “ at the beginning of a normal negotiation process, and when CGD is discussing the biggest increase proposal in the entire banking sector”.
