Last year was all about “One-of-a-kind Luxury” and it looks like 2024 will follow suit as many fashion designers focus on classics rather than current trends. This was certainly the case for Michael Kors, whose Fall/Winter 2024 collection focused on timeless fashion, designing pieces that were popular back in the 1930s but still feel modern and relevant today.
Women in lace from head to toe
Michael Kors has revealed that it is important to him to create clothes and accessories that make women feel strong and confident. “One of my hallmarks has always been to design pieces that will stand the test of time and that people will still be wearing 20-30 years from now.” – said Kors, who drew inspiration for his new collection from his grandparents’ wedding photo from 1930.
The American designer’s Fall-Winter 2024 collection was a kind of love letter to New York, the music background of the fashion show included songs typical of the “Big Apple”, including works by Alicia Keys and Bobby Short, and the location of the now closed, but still beloved Barney’s department store created an instant sense of nostalgia in the fashion industry. Celebrities like Blake Lively, Nina Dobrev, Gabrielle Union-Wade, Brie Larson, Katie Holmes, Lady Amelia and Lady Eliza Spencer sat in the front row.
Kors is aware of how today’s modern woman dresses, and the new collection was accordingly dominated by lace blouse dresses, criss-cross silk dresses, camel coats, layered knit sweaters and belted blazers. Lightness and elegance were also reflected in the color palette, the coffee, chocolate and ivory colors were complemented by navy blue, black and pink shades. As for the model line-up, famous women such as 50-year-old Amber Valletta or 38-year-old Irina Shayk walked the catwalk, but the pieces of the new collection also looked wonderful on the plus size models.
