NURSES WEEK – A celebration dedicated to local care

On the occasion of International Nurses Week, the National Order of Nurses of Madagascar, Conim, is committed to strengthening local care for citizens. A series of activities are planned to celebrate this crucial week, from May 6 to 12.

During this period of celebration, nearly four thousand nurses will mobilize. During a press conference held yesterday in Ivandry, the president of Conim, Jean Aimé Botosera Andrianarison, highlighted the crucial importance of local care. “We are aware that many people cannot afford medical screenings or treatment. This is precisely why we have taken this initiative. During this week, a variety of treatments will be offered, including circumcisions, screenings for diabetes, high blood pressure, HIV, malnutrition, family planning counseling, and more.”

Every year, Madagascar modestly observes World Nurses Day on May 12, but this year it will be celebrated in an exceptional way. A series of activities is planned throughout the week. In Antananarivo, on May 6, the 2nd district, through the Tsiadana Basic Health Center, will be at the heart of local care. Vatomandry will then host medical services on May 8, followed by Brickaville on May 9, and Toamasina on May 10. Finally, to end this celebration in style, Foulpointe will be the scene of the festivities on May 12.

Mercy Ships offers valuable support to the Order of Nurses for all their initiatives. In addition, the nursing corps benefits from training provided by the NGO and participates in enriching exchanges. Although the total number of nurses in Madagascar reaches approximately forty-five thousand, only nineteen thousand eight hundred of them are currently registered in the register of the Order.

Through the establishment of these local services, Jean Aimé Botosera Andrianarison stressed that nurses are not confined to remaining in hospital premises while waiting for patients, but that they are called to fully live their vocation by serving their fellow citizens. “We are here to provide assistance to the most deprived,” he added.

Thank you Ida
