Dance community Celebrates New Appointments, Awards & Honors
The dance world is brimming with exciting developments! Recent announcements highlight significant achievements and rising stars across the industry. Here’s a look at the latest promotions, appointments, and accolades recognizing remarkable talent and dedication.
Rising Through the Ranks: New Soloists & Leadership
Several dancers have earned well-deserved promotions to soloist positions. Naomi Corti, Mary Thomas MacKinnon, and andres Zuniga are now soloists with their respective companies. Notably, Bradley has made history as the first African American female soloist within the company.
Leadership roles are also evolving, fostering innovation and growth. Mthuthuzeli November has been appointed resident choreographer of Charlotte Ballet, bringing his unique vision to the company. Shayla-Vie Jenkins steps into the role of rehearsal director at the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Company, ensuring the continuation of their impactful work.
Recognizing Excellence: Awards & Honors
A wave of prestigious awards acknowledges outstanding contributions to the dance landscape. alice Sheppard and Laurel Lawson jointly received the Knight Choreography Prize. This significant honor includes a $30,000 unrestricted grant and $20,000 in programmatic support from the National Center for Choreography-Akron.
Furthermore, several artists were recognized with 3Arts Awards, each receiving a $30,000 grant. These recipients include Wendy Clinard, Chih-Jou Cheng, and Torrence “Tea Buggz” Griffin.
