Remembrance Day on Dam Square
We look back in detail at the commemorations in the Netherlands, in particular at the National Remembrance Day on Dam Square. Visitors had to register in advance and a maximum of 10,000 people were welcome. Mayor Halsema of Amsterdam and the police decided to do this because of the increased tension in society and a great willingness to take action.
We speak with, among others Wim van de Donkchairman of the National Committee 4 and 5 May.
We also look at other commemorations throughout the country. We ask the question: during Remembrance Day, should we also remember victims of war and violence who died in conflicts other than the Second World War?

Portrait Dido Michielsen
Writer Dido Michielsen will hold the May 4 lecture today in the Nieuwe Kerk in Amsterdam. In preparation for her contribution, she delved into her Indian past and that of her father.
He was a soldier in the Dutch East Indies KNIL army and was sailed to Japan on the ‘hell ship’ Kyoko Maru during the Second World War. Was he a victim, a perpetrator or perhaps both?
Was her father a victim or perpetrator?
