The civil rights landscape lost a true pioneer this week with the passing of Claudette Colvin,a heroic figure whose act of defiance on a Montgomery,Alabama bus in 1955 helped propel the modern fight for equality.
Colvin passed away on Tuesday at the age of 86, as confirmed by the Claudette Colvin Legacy Foundation. Her brave stand occurred several months before Rosa Parks’s more widely publicized protest, yet it served as a critical catalyst for change.
