RUGBY – AFRICA WOMEN’S CUP

The Ladies Makis will play the African Cup at home starting this Saturday.

Madagascar will be at the forefront of the world rugby scene this weekend. The Africa Women’s Cup will begin this Saturday at the Makis stadium in Andohatapenaka.

Three days before the start of the Africa Women’s Cup rugby union, which Madagascar will host for the second time at the Makis stadium in Andohatapenaka from May 4 to 12, the preparation of the Malagasy national team is entering its home stretch. The objective is to put all the chances on your side in order to win one of the two qualifying places for the World Cup (A and B) in 2025.

Entry into training blocked since April 22, the flag bearers of Madagascar, under the direction of Alain Randriamihaja, Head Coach of the Malagasy national team, and Noé Mboazafy or coach Razily, the Ladies Makis, with wise eyes of their coaches, review all

the attack strategies, the defense system, the touch, the transformation and especially the scrum in each training.

“All the players are in top form. As the event approaches, we get into the specific work. We are looking at the details that we are going to put in place against the opponents such as the speed, skill and strengths of each player,” confides Alain Randriamihaja.

Last year, during the confrontation of the Ladies Makis against the Kenyan rugby women at the Makis stadium in Andohatapenaka, the Malagasy national team lost with a score of 20-29. For this year, she has learned her lesson and says she is ready to take her revenge.

Tough opponents

However, Alain Randriamihaja’s protégés are under pressure because the result of this Saturday’s match against the Kenyans is decisive to ensure the rest of the competition.

In case of defeat, they would really jeopardize their chances of obtaining one of the two places for the World Cup (one in the event of a final victory for the World Cup in category A, one in category B for the finalist) .

For the Africa Women’s Cup, three tough opponents stand before the Ladies Makis. South Africa, the big favorite for the final victory, is placed twelfth in the world (65.17 points), followed by Kenya which sits in twenty-third place in the world (48.64 points). Cameroon is ranked 31st in the world with its 41.54 points while the host country is ranked 27th in the world with its 44.65 points.

Without fear but very suspicious, Alain Randriamihaja gave his opinion: “the three countries which come to Madagascar to compete in the African Cup are all very strong teams. None of them will be underestimated. To obtain one of the two tickets for the World Cup, you must win at least two matches. To do this, you have to be one hundred percent ready, or even more, by ensuring all attacks and defense. Public support is essential,” insists Alain Randriamihaja.

The expatriate from France, Jeanne Sorin Marie Louise, will join the national team today to bring something extra to the Malagasy national team.
