Norris Secures Pole Position in Thrilling Qualifying Session
Lando Norris delivered a masterful performance to claim pole position, setting the pace in a dramatic qualifying session. The McLaren driver edged out a competitive field, showcasing both speed and strategic tire management.
The session began with Mercedes’ George Russell and Andrea Antonelli leading the charge, immediately deploying the softer C4 tires. Following closely behind were Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and the second McLaren of Oscar Piastri, alongside Lando Norris.
Russell initially set the benchmark, but his time was quickly surpassed. Antonelli then improved, only to be eclipsed by a blistering lap from Norris, who clocked a 1:09.271. This put him firmly in P1, with Antonelli, Russell, Piastri, and Leclerc rounding out the top five early contenders.
Notably, several drivers – Nico Hülkenberg, Fernando Alonso, Gasly, Lance Stroll, and reigning champion Max Verstappen – initially remained in the garage, conserving tires and observing the track evolution.

Piastri adopted a ‘push-cool-push’ strategy, attempting to maximize tire performance. Despite this, his second push lap only secured him third position. Norris, however, wasn’t content, finding even more pace on his subsequent lap, improving his best time to a remarkable 1:09.243.
Verstappen, who had previously topped sector 1, ultimately struggled to string together a complete lap. A drop in pace through the final two sectors and a track limits violation relegated him to sixth place.
When the checkered flag waved, the final order was set: Norris on pole, followed by Antonelli, Piastri, and Russell, forming the first two rows of the grid.
