Simone shares this intense fact when she talks in the magazine about how journalists and news organizations had to deal with ‘anger and hatred’ during corona times. She found that ‘quite frightening’. “It is sad but true that nowadays threats almost seem to be part of life when you hold a public position. I have also had to report it twice because of threats of a racist nature.”
The newsreader continues: “A few years ago, on my day off, I was told that the NOS editorial office had been evacuated due to a threatening letter. The next day I came back to work and was called to the editor-in-chief; it turned out that the letter had it was aimed at me. That was a shock of course.”
Simone reported the incident, made a statement and received victim assistance. “The hatred that arises from such a letter is so intense. I still find it bizarre to realize that someone, a stranger, is going to all that trouble for the simple fact that I don’t like him or her.” .
