Blue and White Linz has taken a huge step towards staying in the league in the Bundesliga. The promoted team celebrated on Tuesday in the Hofmann Personal Stadium thanks to a brace from Ronivaldo (62′, 88’/penalty). Altach a 2-1 win and expanded the gap to bottom team Austria Lustenau in the qualifying group to eight points. The new second-to-last from Altach also has this lead, as they fell behind due to the poorer direct comparison.

Qualification group – 28th matchday

For Linz, it was the first win since the 2-0 home derby against LASK on November 12, 2023 and after 13 unsuccessful attempts. The triumph was definitely deserved due to an increase in performance after the break. In the fourth league duel of the season there was a winner for the first time. The Vorarlbergers, for whom only Ouedraogo (2nd) scored, suffered another defeat after seven unbeaten games. The Altach team will continue in the 29th league round at Vienna Austria on Friday, while the Linz team will be guests at the WAC on Saturday. Twelve points are still up for grabs in the last four rounds.

Altach with a lightning start

72 seconds had been played when Schmid was only able to high-five Fadinger’s shot forward and Ouedraogo scored his debut goal in the upper house via a tap-in. After an hour, the Altachers were lucky that Demaku did not receive a yellow-red card for repeated foul play after a foul on Noß. There was little to be seen in terms of play; fighting and cramps dominated the action. A record of 2-0 shots on goal for Altach underlined that highlights were in absolute short supply.

At the break, the Linzers switched to a back four and came out of the locker room with significantly more momentum. Top chances were still rare. Ronivaldo set up for Dobras, but he couldn’t quite finish (60′). Two minutes later, Mitrovic headed in the middle and Ronivaldo headed in. Schützenauer was able to excel in a Dobras shot (74′). But the goalie had to reach behind himself again at the finish. Dobras provoked a penalty with a dribble in the penalty area due to a Koller foul, which Ronivaldo safely converted. The neo-Austrian now has nine goals this season.
