While making remakes of old classics seems like an easy way to make money, on the other hand, publishers risk the wrath of the original fans if things don’t go smoothly. And that’s exactly what happened now while waiting for the new version of the cult horror film Silent Hill 2, the first trailer of which was presented during the recent State of Play presentation.

Reducing Silent Hill 2 to a mere shooter was not very wise of the trailer writers.

In our summarizing article, I politely wrote that the footage shown “didn’t look particularly fun”, but connoisseurs of the 22-year-old original were much more explicit in the expressiveness used. In place of the oppressive atmosphere of uncertainty and dread that fans love the brand to this day, he showed only a dozen-looking shooter against hordes of monsters. Piotr Babieno, director of the Polish Bloober Team, who is in charge of development, is very well aware of the (bad) quality of the trailer. In an interview with Inwestorzy.tv (via Eurogamer), he even jokingly admitted that he wrote some of the hateful comments on YouTube himself.

He then undiplomatically distanced himself from the minute-and-a-half-long demo, saying that the distribution company Konami was responsible for its final cut and marketing in general. “We think that when people see the actual game, they will have a completely different opinion of it,” he is sure.

On the one hand, it is understandable that Babieno is disappointed by the audience’s reactions so far, but on the other hand, such an excuse does not look very collegial. In addition, most gamers are completely robbed of business relationships between game companies and want to know that their favorite work is in good hands. And they certainly don’t know that yet.

In any case, there is still a lot of time left until the game’s release, probably more than a year, so it’s too early to break a stick over the game.
