Since the beginning of the attack launched by Russia two years ago, more than 270 people have been killed by mines and other explosive devices, Serhiy Reva, the head of the demining department of the Ukrainian disaster protection service, said at a press conference in Kyiv on Thursday.

“Unfortunately, war leaves its mark, and mines and other explosive devices took victims among the civilian population as well,” said the official. Citing data from the Ministry of Defense, he said that more than 270 people had been killed since the start of the war. He added that 14 children were among the dead. More than six hundred civilians were injured in such explosions, Reva said.

In a statement, the press service of the disaster management informed that pyrotechnic specialists destroyed a half-ton Russian aerial bomb in the Zaporizhzhya county. According to the report, local people alerted the emergency services on Wednesday that they had found an explosive device in the field next to one of the settlements. The specialists of the state emergency service arrived on the scene and determined that the structure was an unexploded FAB-500 bomb. Its removal was difficult because the fuse in the aerial bomb had been modified, making it impossible to transport. Due to the risk, the aerial bomb had to be detonated on the spot, the press service explained.
