Severe flooding and landslides struck multiple provinces across Luzon on Thursday, August 6, 2026, as the southwest monsoon, enhanced by Tropical Depression Maymay, battered the region with heavy rain and high tides.
Flooding Submerges Macabebe and Zambales Coastal Communities
In Macabebe, Pampanga, floodwaters inundated several barangays as high tides intensified the severe weather. According to the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, 14 barangays in the municipality suffered flooding. Homes in Barangay San Vicente took on water, while residents and motorists navigated flooded roads in Barangay Telacsan. Overflowing river water in Barangay Saplad David further exacerbated the inundation across the area.
To the west in Zambales, rising floodwaters forced 172 residents to evacuate from affected communities, including Barangays San Vicente in Palauig, Malabon and Pamibian in Candelaria, and Canaynayan and San Fernando in Sta. Cruz. Additionally, authorities reported that a house in Barangay Pamonoran, Sta. Cruz sustained partial damage after a tree fell on it on Wednesday. In response to the intensifying conditions, Malacañang issued Memorandum Circular No. 122, suspending government work and classes at all levels across Zambales on August 6.
Nueva Ecija Suspensions and Mountain Province Road Closures
Further inland, Cabanatuan City in Nueva Ecija experienced cloudy skies and intermittent rain brought on by the monsoon and Tropical Storm Maymay. Government offices and classes at all levels remained suspended across Nueva Ecija on Thursday, while residents displaced by earlier flooding continued to shelter in evacuation centers.
Mountainous northern areas faced severe transit disruptions due to landslides, soil collapses, and mudflows. According to the Department of Public Works and Highways, road sections in Barangays Bugnay and Luplupa in Tinglayan, Kalinga, were reduced to a single lane due to soil collapse, while clearing operations restored one-lane passage along the Balbalan–Pinukpuk Road in Pinukpuk. In Mountain Province, an unstable slope blocked traffic entirely in Barangay Talubin, Bontoc, and mudflow obstructed the Mountain Province–Nueva Vizcaya Road in Sitio Finew, Barangay Samoki. Meanwhile, clearing operations successfully restored one-lane access along roads in Sitio Agadchang, Barangay Betwagan in Sadanga and Sitio Purag, Barangay Banao in Natonin.
Benguet Mining Suspensions and Infrastructure Disruptions
In Benguet, Governor Melchor Diclas ordered the temporary suspension of all small-scale mining, quarrying, river-related, and tourism activities due to the hazardous weather. Clearing operations by the Department of Public Works and Highways and local governments restored one-lane passability on the Gov. Dangwa Road in Barangay Ampusongan, Bakun, while Marcos Highway in Sitio Caucalan, Taloy Sur, Tuba and Cosalan Road in Barangay Bila, Bokod were reopened to two-way traffic following mudflow clearance.
However, sections of the Benguet–Nueva Vizcaya Road in Sitios Bangao and Bua in Bokod remained limited to one-lane traffic because of soil collapse, erosion, and fallen trees. In La Trinidad, swollen waters from Bolo Creek flooded the road leading to the Strawberry Farm and submerged nearby agricultural fields, while authorities carried out clearing operations in Sitio Pipingew, Barangay Lubas to clear road access and move affected residents to evacuation centers. In Itogon, the Luneta–Loacan Proper Junction in Barangay Loacan became completely impassable after the Antamok River overflowed due to high water levels and strong currents. As a precautionary measure against the ongoing severe weather, the Baguio City government temporarily closed all public parks except Burnham Park.
