Finally someone who crosses boundaries in a positive way. Joost Klein, the artist who will represent the Netherlands in the Eurovision Song Contest in May, presented his song ‘Europapa’ on Thursday to Arjen Lubach (NPO1), who made a scheduled broadcast in the afternoon.

Lubach had a hilarious video in which random European citizens expressed their love for the artist via fake subtitles. A man named all his rabbits after Joost Klein. A woman had given her virginity to him. At the Youth news (NPO3) Klein revealed his secret weapon: TikTok. Being popular in your own country is nice, but to win the Eurovision Song Contest, you have to convince foreign viewers. He does this cleverly by conducting a long-term marketing campaign on TikTok, with which he attracts viewers far beyond Enschede.

Klein presented his happy hardcore banger in a VPRO program while the AvroTros Eurovision Song Contest is taking place. He fits equally well with both broadcasters. He can make stadiums scream with his Dutch-language stompers, but he is also a theatrical comedian who works with irony, retro styles and clever references. Above all, Klein is a beloved man who makes many people happy – you wish him his success.

Van Sophie & Jeroen until Humberto — Joost Klein’s praises were sung all evening. Only Op1 couldn’t do anything with it. They let it out for a while, acted a bit giggly, no one could think of anything sensible. Presenter Jort Kelder had difficulty controlling his disgust. A moment later he had to bite his lip forcefully again. The WNL talk show spent two minutes on the news about its own boss: Bert Huisjes. It AD had reported that the WNL director was creating a culture of fear at his broadcaster.

Amazing man

The Huisjes case also took place on Wednesday evening, but thanks to deadly expressions of support from his Supervisory Board and other supporters, the issue was able to participate in a second TV evening. The supporters thought Huisjes was a great man. They kicked women who dared to complain into a corner. One is said to be “hysterical,” the other a “very attractive, lazy whiner.”

These reactions caused much outrage. So much that the Supervisory Board had to withdraw its response. EO director Arjan Lock, also chairman of the club of broadcasting directors, said Sophie & Jeroen (NPO1): “This is unbelievable. If you really want to show that you have it not understood, you must come up with such a response.” Other guests found the expressions of support characteristic of the toxic working atmosphere in Hilversum. Once again, tall, powerful men held their hand over the head of a fellow man. This way they remain in power, even after proven mismanagement, and nothing changes.

If they don’t say anything, you can also see the butter dripping from their heads. This in particular affects the credibility of the public broadcaster. Jeroen Pauw had to come in Sophie & Jeroen for example, talking about Bert Huisjes and fallen presenter Khalid Kasem, while he produces one person’s TV program and sits in the other’s chair.

So Jort Kelder was there Op1 biting his lip when his boss Huisjes was mentioned. The same Huisjes had helped Kelder when it turned out that the WNL presenter was financing radical right-wing propaganda from his holiday friend Thierry Baudet. Now Kelder started a putting sentence into perspective with: “I find it complicated that these kinds of things are all… front page, news, etc.… at an individual level… all kinds of presenters, directors…” Apparently an editor was now shouting in his earpiece – ‘Don’t do that, Jort!’ – because he didn’t finish his sentence and turned to a concluding question.
