Another week has flown by, and wiht it comes the sweet relief of the weekend – a prime opportunity to dive headfirst into the worlds of PC gaming. Here at Rock, Paper, Shotgun, we’ve been juggling new releases, ongoing obsessions, and even… home repairs. Let’s take a look at what’s occupying our gaming minds this weekend, and hopefully inspire your next adventure.
Avoiding Dictators & Embracing Rodent Societies
Some of us are actively choosing not to revisit certain gaming experiences. One team member is happily sidestepping the political intrigue of Fallout: New Vegas, opting to avoid negotiations with any Roman-cosplaying tyrants.
Simultaneously occurring, Edwin is deeply invested in a charmingly unique project: building a thriving rodent civilization in Whiskerwood. He’s successfully housed his furry pioneers and established a foraging operation, all while cautiously navigating the threat of corsairs and seeking out valuable gold deposits. The key to success? Apparently, smelling strongly of coal and burlap.
The Pull of New Shooters & Old Obsessions
New releases are always tempting, and James recently picked up Arc Raiders. despite a history of in-game failures (and some rather vivid shoulder-angel/devil imagery featuring a suspiciously Ollie-like demon), the game’s pull is proving strong.The internal debate – fueled by fond memories of The Finals – continues.
Julian, too, is grappling with a similar dilemma. He intends to spend the weekend preparing for our 2025 Advent Calendar, even installing promising titles like Diceomancer, Strange Antiquities, and Keep Driving. however, the siren song of Arc Raiders is proving difficult to resist, and a return to Speranza seems unavoidable. He admits to a less-than-heroic playstyle, prioritizing a scrap-scavenging chicken upgrade over altruism.
Real-Life Raids & Medieval Management
Sometimes, the moast challenging game isn’t virtual at all. Jeremy is currently battling a real-life plumbing crisis, framing it as a quest to find a plumber – preferably one capable of dealing with Koopas. A relatable struggle for any homeowner!
Mark, on the other hand, has fallen into the deep, complex world of Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord. Leading a band of 36 mercenaries, he’s discovered that running a medieval murder band requires surprisingly sophisticated financial planning – complete with a Companies House page (or, failing that, carving records into enemy corpses).
The Allure of Immersive Sound Design
Ollie remains utterly captivated by arc Raiders, praising the game’s exceptional sound design. He specifically highlights the satisfying feel of the Ferro battle Rifle and Rattler AR, suggesting Embark Studios could perhaps rival Hunt: Showdown‘s legendary audio quality. His dedication even extends to providing ”malicious whispering” to James, fueling his Arc Raiders indecision.
