A recent study concluded that sleep has healthy rules that must be followed in order to get enough rest, which makes a person able to continue his life well. It found that good sleep leads to prolonging a person’s life and adding years to his life.

A report published by the Health Digest website, which specializes in medical news, and seen by Al Arabiya Net, said that lack of sleep from time to time can lead a person to have difficulty concentrating, and over time, sleep deprivation can lead to cognitive problems and chronic diseases at a time. Later in life.

According to a recent scientific study conducted during the year 2024, it was found that good sleep patterns can add 4.7 years to a man’s life, and 2.4 years to a woman’s life.

The study conducted interviews with more than 170,000 people about their health and sleep behaviors, and compared them with death records years later.

The researchers took into account five sleep factors in their measure of sleep quality. The first was whether people were getting the ideal amount of sleep, which ranged from seven to eight hours. The following two factors took into account how difficult it was to fall asleep and stay asleep through the night. The fourth factor was related to whether people were taking sleep medications, and the fifth was related to how rested people felt when they woke up.

To get the full five points for sleep quality, people must get at least seven hours of sleep, fall asleep easily, stay asleep at least five nights a week, not take sleep medication, and wake up feeling rested five days a week.

The researchers found that people who scored five on sleep quality had a longer life expectancy than those with one or zero of the sleep factors.

The researchers said that sleep quality also affects the risk of death due to certain conditions, as those who scored five points had a 30% lower risk of death from all causes, a 21% lower risk of dying from cardiovascular diseases, and a 19% lower risk of dying from cancer.

Experts recommend improving sleep patterns in daily life, including respecting the body’s circadian rhythm by sleeping and waking up at fixed times throughout the week.

Experts also recommend that when going to bed, this should not be after a strenuous exercise, or after eating a heavy meal, as this may make sleeping somewhat difficult, and it is best to avoid any of these things within two hours before bedtime. A person will also be able to sleep a little easier if they practice a relaxation ritual, which includes turning off the lights, reading a book, or taking a shower to allow your body and mind to settle. Experts also recommend staying away from the mobile phone, computer, and electronic devices in the late hours of the night.
