The Boston Celtics, owned by Portuguese Neemias Queta, signed center forward Xavier Tillman from the Memphis Grizzlies, the NBA team announced this Thursday, which will give Lavar Stevens and two picks in the second round of the draft in exchange.

Tillman, 25, will strengthen the Celtics’ interior positions, which already have Kristaps Porzingis, Al Horford, Luke Kornet and Neemias Queta, which means more competition for the Portuguese post.

The Portuguese international has already played 22 games for the Boston Celtics in the NBA this season, averaging 4.8 points, 4.5 rebounds, 0.4 steals, 0.6 shot tackles and 0.5 assists, in addition to 12.2 minutes per game.

The 24-year-old Portuguese international center was chosen by the Sacramento Kings in 39th position in the 2021 NBA draft, becoming the first Portuguese to play in the competition.

In the last season, he was hired by the Boston Celtics, in a two-way contract, which means he will play for the main team, but also for the Maine Celtics, who compete in the G-League.
