KORTRIJK – With their debate evenings at an exceptionally high level, Kortrijk entrepreneurs Joris Claeys and Jacques Delfosse have set a unique and enviable standard. Face Time has become a classic. For the eighth edition – due to more space – we will move to Kortrijk Xpo. The announced topic is everywhere the talk of town: what should we do with artificial intelligence (AI)? A threat or an opportunity? Top speakers analyze and analyze the subject from all sides.

Rotary Club Kortrijk, the oldest service club in the Golden Spurs City, chose the impressive Barco Campus as the location for its fundraising event ‘Face Time Kortrijk’ for years. However, driving forces Jacques Delfosse and Joris Claeys took the initiative to move to Kortrijk XPO for the eighth edition. “Barco offered a unique setting, but our event was bursting at the seams. When you have to close your ticket sales early every year because of… sold outthen this is a signal that you cannot ignore,” says Jacques Delfosse.

Bigger, better, stronger

The eighth edition of Face Time Kortrijk will take place at Kortrijk XPO on March 6. “We are really looking forward to it and are convinced that we will be in the Kortrijk XPO Meeting Center bigger, better in stronger can go,” says Joris Claeys. “We can also organize a VIP reception for our main sponsors and offer a different experience to the spectators in the hall. We once again bring three fascinating keynote speakers, followed by an extensive reception with a fresh pint. We are aiming for more than 800 attendees, so there will be plenty of networking opportunities. But especially the themes discussed during the keynotes always provide fascinating discussions at the bar.”

Where the location changes, however, the theme is the same as last year: ‘artificial intelligence’. Joris Claeys explains: “Last year, our event came a few weeks after the launch of Chat GPT as a major breakthrough moment. Since then, however, the entire space has evolved so much more. We therefore felt that we had not yet finished discussing this technological revolution.”

Face Time Kortrijk will feature three speakers, each approaching the theme of AI from a different angle. Jacques Delfosse: “We start with an entrepreneur from our own region, Jorn Vanysacker, who, as co-founder of Henchman, makes software for lawyers. The launch of Chat GPT also meant momentum for them. Things are going very fast and they now have customers in 35 countries. Then Tom Van de Weghe also comes to speak. Most people know him from his time as a USA and China correspondent for VRT. However, what many do not know is that Tom was awarded the prestigious John S. Knight Journalism Fellowship from Stanford University in 2018. As a research fellow, he spent a year at Stanford investigating the impact of artificial intelligence and deepfakes and was the founder of the Stanford Deepfake Research Team.”

Joris Claeys explains the third speaker: “Rik Vera is our closing member and with that we have acquired a real winner. As founder of Nexxworks together with Peter Hinssen, he has proven that he is not only at the forefront of new business strategies and technological developments, but also able to convey this content to an audience in an inimitable way. We are really looking forward to his keynote.”
