During the inspection, the Szczecin Social Insurance Institution discovered two fraudulent cases of sick leave. In one case, the driver, who was on sick leave, provided services to someone other than the original employer, and in the other, the employee flew out with her husband to… Miami during L 4.

ZUS currently hires companies to verify the honesty of taken sick leave. One of them is Conperio, whose president argues that Poles commonly cheat on L4, and the inspections carried out are only “a drop in the ocean of needs”.

The Szczecin Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) withdrew sickness benefits for both the driver and the woman who flew to Miami. For Mikołaj Zając, president of Conperio, this is a good prognosis.

We are happy with the consistent decisions of the Szczecin unit, because such quick action of the Social Insurance Institution in obvious cases of abuse is, unfortunately, not always the norm. In the first case, in accordance with the regulations, a benefit amounting to over PLN 14,000 was withdrawn from an employee who, while on sick leave, worked as a driver for another company.

In the second case, ZUS refused to pay a two-month rehabilitation benefit to a woman who, while on sick leave, went on a trip to Miami with her husband. In her explanation, the woman admitted to going abroad for recreational purposes – says the president of Conperio, quoted by Super Express.

Interestingly, reports of the need for inspections do not come only from employers. Employees also ask for it when they feel a sense of gross injustice, because, for example, due to the absence of co-workers, they have to take over some of their responsibilities.
