Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy called for solidarity regarding the situation with Ukrainian grain in Poland. The leader emphasized that they strive to solve the situation at the border jointly and in accordance with both parties, in a completely pragmatic manner.

This is the grain that our farmers and peasants are producing with great difficulty, despite the difficulties caused by the brutal Russian aggression. I would like to address Polish society and express Ukraine’s gratitude to all those who distinguish between political manipulation and critical national security issues

– he said.

In his speech, Zelenskiy announced that he would march to the border with the government on February 24, and that he would like the Polish government to do the same. He also addressed the president and the prime minister personally. As he put it,

I ask you, Prime Minister Donald, to come to the border as well. And Andrzej, Mr. President, I ask you to support this dialogue. This is about national security. This should not be delayed. The next few days will give you the opportunity to do so.

I am also ready to go to the border with our government. I would also like to address the European Commission. We must preserve the unity of Europe. This is basically in the interest of the European Union. That is why Ukraine requested that a representative of the European Commission also participate in this meeting.

Poles fear Russian provocation

On Wednesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Warsaw warned of the danger of provocations inspired by extreme pro-Russian groups in connection with the anti-Ukraine slogans that emerged during farmers’ demonstrations in Poland, MTI reported.

In a statement published on the ministry’s website, it expressed its “gravest concern” that “anti-Ukrainian slogans and glorifying Vladimir Putin and the war he waged” appeared at the farmers’ protests.

The announcement presumably refers to the fact that at one of the sites of Tuesday’s road blockade, in the village of Gorzyczki in Silesia, a vehicle was attached to the tractor column, on which a Soviet flag and a banner reading “Putin, fix Ukraine, Brussels and our governors” were attached.

Citing the chances of the farmers’ “largely legitimate” demands being met and the Polish state interest, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs calls on the organizers of the protests to identify the “not very large number of initiators” of such and similar actions themselves.

In Gorzyczki, according to the commercial news television Polsat News, the farmer who displayed an anti-Ukrainian banner was removed from the tractor column by the police. Prosecution proceedings were initiated against the man for spreading totalitarian ideas and inciting hatred on a national basis. A prison term of up to three years can be imposed for these.

Road traffic was slowed down in several places on Wednesday as part of the farmers’ protest in Poland, which has been going on for almost two weeks, against the import of Ukrainian goods and the European Union’s green agreement. On the middle section of the A1 highway, which crosses the country in a north-south direction, at Piotrków Trybunalski, traffic was stopped in both directions, which the police diverted to bypass roads.

At the two-day session of the Polish Sejm that began on Wednesday, the representatives of the opposition parties – Law and Justice (PiS), Kukiz’15 and Confederation – called for the government to adopt measures to improve the situation of farmers. The government coalition, on the other hand, accused the previous government led by PiS of having committed omissions in relation to Polish agriculture in the European Union forum and in the field of Polish-Ukrainian relations.
