On a sporting level, Alejandro Restrepo’s team started League 1 on the right foot: they beat U. César Vallejo 2-1, with goals from Cecilio Waterman and Catriel Cabellos. Now, at the institutional level the atmosphere was different. And after the appointment of Ricardo Gareca as guide of the Chilean team, more than one question was raised about the future of Néstor Bonillo. Well, in recent days it was confirmed that the Argentine finished his time as sports planning advisor for the La Victoria team (he was an external advisor until November of last year) and will be part of the ‘Tigre’ technical command. Be careful, this scenario had already been discussed at the time of signing the bond.

In the midst of this panorama, Depor spoke with the former physical trainer of the red and white team and this is what he told us: “At first I had to fulfill the role of external advisor and the second one as well, with the same figure, only in the first part did not have advice for professional football. When I assumed this role, the first thing I told them was that I still belong to the technical command of Professor Ricardo Gareca and that this situation will be tied to this bond that I have had with him for many years. “This situation was already contemplated before.”

In turn, Néstor Bonillo maintained that “the club understood it, at the time it considered that it could contribute, in the time it was there, the knowledge it had acquired and they accepted it that way. In this case, it was already known in advance that in the event of a proposal with Professor Gareca’s technical command, I was going to follow the steps of that project.”

Néstor Bonillo’s arrival occurred in the month of August 2023, and from that moment on he performed an atypical function for him, since his majority experience was as a physical trainer. However, the club opted to have him as an advisor and collaborated in the 2024 sports project (since November he was appointed as sports planning advisor), where the intimates will not only go all out for the national championship and do a good job in the Copa Libertadores .

“During this time I was able to establish consultations with the club in an absolutely different role than the one I have played all my life as a physical trainer, we had to see if this advice had an effect and if both parties felt comfortable. Fortunately that happened, it happened in a good way because my advice needed execution and the club did it at first with José Sabogal, the first one I had a relationship with and whom I thank for this possibility; then with Diego Guerrero,” he expressed.

Finally, the former physical trainer of the Peruvian National Team clarified whether the Blue and White Fund had any interference in his work: “No. The people of the Blanquiazul Fund gave us full freedom to give our opinion, advise and also gave it to the management to be able to carry out that advice.”

Alianza Lima’s agenda

After its debut with a 2-1 victory over Universidad César Vallejo (scores by Cecilio Waterman and Catriel Cabellos), Alianza Lima is already thinking about what will be its next great challenge for League 1, which will put it face to face with Alianza Atlético, which registered a draw with Atlético Grau. In that sense, the blue and white will visit the Campeones del 36 stadium, this Sunday, February 4 at 2 in the afternoon.
