David Pastrňák gave Boston a 2:1 win over Toronto in the decisive seventh game with a goal in overtime and progress to the second round of the NHL playoffs. The chance that the Czech hockey star and his teammate Pavel Zacha will play at the home world championship has thus decreased. On the other hand, the overseas season ended for David Kämpf.

Pastrnak responded in the best possible way to Boston coach Jim Montgomery’s critical words. The coach said after the last game that the leaders have to be the best on the ice and that they have to come up with more. He named Pastrňák, who became the hero of the seventh duel. The native of Havířovsk was the fastest at the thrown puck, which bounced conveniently in front of the goal.

Boston, which lost a 3-1 lead in the series, was losing from the 50th minute on a goal by William Nylander. Defender Hampus Lindholm equalized in just 81 seconds, after which Pastrňák put the puck in from the middle zone in time 61:54. The Czech forward scored five points (3+2) in the series.

Boston will face Florida, which eliminated Tampa Bay in five games, in the second round. Another pair consists of Carolina with the New York Rangers and Edmonton with Vancouver. Colorado will face an opponent from the Dallas-Vegas series, which also reached a decisive seventh game.
