In less than a month I’m having carotid surgery. It’s quite an operation… No! Let’s stop talking, my blood pressure is already rising. May God give it well. (…) The day, the condition of the surgeon and my condition also matter. Imagine a mountain river on which two boulders have fallen. That is, on the carotid. Only a trickle of blood passes now and my blood pressure jumps out of thin air. It’s true that I had a profession with a lot of adrenaline.

The famous actress also has problems with money. She has an extraordinarily small pension, 2,350 lei to be exact, even if she delighted the public for her entire life. She said she has a solar in her yard and can put vegetables in the freezer to have something to eat.

“It is true that I have a shameful pension. Is this how they rewarded us for being soldiers in the service of the commander? I have 2,350 lei pension from the theater. (…) Lucky that a microphone was put in my mouth and I had the opportunity. But what do we do? What are the old ladies on my street doing? The people I played for and brought joy to. Please, we are the last of the Mohicans (…) I have a garden, it’s true, I have a solar, I work and I put my vegetables in the freezer all summer”, said the beloved actress.

Tora Vasilescu, a life on stage

Tora Vasilescu graduated from the Theater and Cinematographic Art Institute in Bucharest in 1976, in the class of teacher Eugenia Popovici. She was awarded three times with the Award for Interpretation of the Union of Cinematographers from Romania. She won the Golden Plaque award for her role in Impossible Love at the Neorealist Film Festival “Laceno D’Oro” in Avellino and the award for Best Supporting Actress in Red Rats.

The actress was married to the director Mircea Daneliuc. Then, she married Alain Vrdoljak.
