Usher understands that Justin Bieber was not on stage with him during the Super Bowl on Sunday, despite all kinds of speculation. “It did not work.”

Usher did ask Bieber to perform with him, but the Canadian singer refused. “I think it’s because he wants to tell a different story at this point, and I understand and respect that,” Usher said on the radio show The Breakfast Club.

Usher, 45, and Bieber, 29, have a long history together. Usher was the one who took Bieber under his wing as a mentor years ago. “Love is not gone,” the R&B artist reminded his fans. “We’re going to do something different in the future.” The singer did not reveal what that is.

Usher provided the famous one this year halftime show, the halftime performance of the final of the American football competition NFL. “Just because Justin wasn’t there now doesn’t mean it will never happen,” he said Yeah!singer, who expects Bieber to headline the Super Bowl in a few years.

The rumor mill about Bieber’s appearance at the Super Bowl started spinning after he performed for the first time in a year this month. The artist made a surprise performance during the 2024 NHL All-Star Game in Toronto.

Usher was not alone on stage during the Super Bowl. Alicia Keys, HER, Ludacris and Lil Jon, among others, accompanied him.
