What to eat in the evening for a light dinner

Dr. Roveda clarifies what a good, light dinner is made up of: “A good evening meal is made up of lean proteins such as chicken, turkey, fish, legumes and tofu. All foods of excellent protein quality but digestible, also because proteins provide a sense of satiety which will prevent you from overeating. You can abound with vegetables, which contribute to the vitamin and mineral profile, as well as being a source of magnesium which also helps you sleep. Fruit is also important, while cereals and dried fruit are a good source of unsaturated fats – therefore the ‘good’ fats – and also of tryptophan and melatonin, which help you sleep”.

Foods to avoid at dinner

Likewise, it is important to pay attention to certain foods, which could instead weigh down the dinner making it excessively caloric, but without exaggerating: “Dinners must be complete. We must not demonize pasta and evening carbohydrates, we can and must eat everything, with particular attention to portions, which must not be excessive so as not to make digestion more difficult during the night and obviously to avoid weight gain. It would be correct to avoid foods with a high fat and sugar content, just as it is recommended to avoid meals that are too high in salt, which can have negative effects on water retention and blood pressure, as well as fueling thirst at night.
