The Taliban authorities in Khost province in eastern Afghanistan have banned local TV and radio stations from accepting calls from women in educational programs, the Afghanistan Journalists’ Center (AFJC), a media monitoring organization, said.

According to the letter from the provincial police, the women who phoned into the programs of the private broadcasters “wanted to have illicit relations” with the presenters and “behaved inappropriately”. In the letter, it was emphasized that the broadcasters do not even have a license to broadcast educational programs.

Since the Taliban came to power in August 2021, they have gradually excluded girls and women from the education system. Since the Taliban excluded girls from education, the media has sought to increase educational programs

Although the authorities keep saying they are working on ways to allow girls and women to return to the education system, Afghan girls are only allowed to attend school up to the 6th grade. The only exceptions to this are religious schools and midwifery and nursing schools in some regions.
