British police say they have recovered a luxury Ferrari stolen 28 years ago.

The car is owned by Formula 1 driver Gerhard Berger. He competed in the 1995 San Marino Grand Prix when his Ferrari F512M was stolen along with another sports car from Imola, Italy.

Police believe the car, which is a facelifted version of Ferrari’s iconic Testarossa, was sent to Japan shortly after it was stolen. The sports car, painted in classic red, costs approx 410,000 euros. It is being brought to the UK in late 2023, reports Darric.

The Ferrari came to the attention of the London police in January this year, when law enforcement received a tip from the Italian car manufacturer. Ferrari inspected a car purchased by a US buyer through a UK broker and quickly realized it was Berger’s car, which disappeared nearly three decades ago.

No arrests have been made yet, but the investigation into the car affair continues, the Metropolitan said.

Ferrari F512M is the latest version of the Italian automaker’s iconic Testarossa. About 500 units were produced between 1994 and 1996.
