Valentina Bolocan is 27 years old and, after graduating in Agricultural Sciences and Technologies, she chose to work on a pear farm in Italy. An unusual choice compared to the options of today’s youth. “I have always had a passion for nature. I don’t consider working in agriculture as a sacrifice, but as an opportunity”, says the Moldovan.

Originally from Moldova, Valentina now lives in the Italian town of Limidi di Soliera. After graduating in Agricultural Sciences and Technologies at the University of Bologna, she started working on a farm. With her is her partner, Enrico, 35, their two dogs, Leo and Niki, and their two cats, Romy and Lulu.

“The passion for country life has always existed. I was born and raised in Moldova, in a country village, and since I was little, I have always lived in close contact with nature and animals. Once I arrived in Italy, at the age of 14, I enrolled in the agricultural technical institute and, after graduating from high school, I chose to continue in this field of study, enrolling in the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Technologies in Bologna. At the same time, I started working in the fields. In the spring and autumn I studied for the exams, and during the summer and winter I worked. I also registered in the National Register of Agricultural Experts to provide advice in case of damages caused by atmospheric phenomena”, says Valentina, quoted by the publication Tempo News.

“It’s not a sacrifice to get my hands dirty, on the contrary, it’s a joy”

She says most young people her age are surprised by the career she chose.

“It’s something unusual for many young people my age, but for me it’s a life choice like any other, and what’s more, it’s the best one I could have made. It is not difficult for me to get up early in the morning and it is not a sacrifice to get my hands dirty, on the contrary, it is a joy. I can’t imagine myself in any other situation than this.

In addition, I share this choice with my partner, and he, too, is happy this way, as are our animals. Even our two dogs, Leo and Niki, in their own way, give us a helping hand. For example, when they see that we are moving the cut wood and branches, they start to collect and gather the branches together with us. They don’t need animal toys: they have fun with what nature gives them,” explains the young woman.

How Valentina sees the future

Referring to her future, Valentina says she sees it “exactly as it is today, and if there are more of us, the better.”

“We would like to start growing vegetables besides fruit trees. The future is full of dreams, but the present is already beautiful as it is,” adds the previously quoted source.
