An explosion during indoor training on United States of America led to 16 team members SWAT Orange County Sheriff’s Department, Southern California injured. They had to be rushed to hospital, with one person having to undergo surgery for a leg injury, the department said.
Two other people suffered minor injuries, while 13 other people experienced dizziness and ringing in their ears.
Reported by the news agency Associated Press and Al ArabiyaThursday (14/3/2024), the mysterious explosion occurred shortly before 1 pm on Wednesday (13/3) local time in a remote area of Irvine, said Sheriff Sergeant Frank Gonzalez.
Gonzales said that at this time it is not certain what caused the explosion, but it occurred during training with the sheriff’s bomb squad.
Gonzales said the most serious injury was a leg wound that was not life-threatening and required surgery. The other two injured deputies did not require surgery, he said.
Footage taken from a helicopter showed a small one-story building surrounded by yellow police tape and surrounded by a grassy field.
No FBI personnel were injured, said bureau spokeswoman Laura Eimiller.
Eimiller said the facility south of Los Angeles hosts firearms training and qualification tests for the FBI and local law enforcement agencies.
The FBI will lead the investigation, Gonzalez said.
