The American full-size pickup truck market is constantly evolving. The battle between the big three American manufacturers leads to constant changes. Besides, Ram is making many changes to its 1500 lineup in 2025. Some will be cosmetic, but the biggest is the complete disappearance of HEMI V8 engines. These changes also lead to the disappearance of TRX which will be replaced by a version that is a little less extreme in its engine approach. The latter will be called RHO.

Aesthetic reminder of the TRX

Visually, the Ram 1500 RHO 2025 takes the design of the Ram 1500 TRX. The more aggressive hood with numerous intakes, the widened fenders, the large tires and the raised suspension are therefore still present and contribute to the unique appearance of this version. However, the huge TRX stickers on the back of the body are replaced by huge stickers, but with the words RHO, this time.

When it comes to the interior, the 2025 Ram 1500 RHO doesn’t stand out much from other high-end Rams. There is instrumentation with a 12.3-inch display in front of the driver and a large 14.5-inch screen positioned vertically for the infotainment system. The front passenger can also have the option of having an optional 10.25-inch screen in front for certain multimedia controls.

However, one element that distinguishes the 2025 Ram 1500 RHO from the other Rams in the range is the presence of a unique driving mode selector. The latter contains the following driving modes: automatic, tow, mud/sand, rock, snow, sport, baja, custom and even a launch mode. Additionally, the RHO has gear selectors behind the steering wheel that add to the sporty character of the truck.

Less power under the hood

The big changes on the 2025 Ram 1500 are under the hood, and the RHO is no exception. While the latter replaces the TRX, which was equipped with an impressive 6.2-liter V8 that generates 702 horsepower and 650 pound-feet, the RHO revises these figures downwards. Indeed, the RHO uses the high-efficiency 3-liter in-line 6-cylinder found under the hood of the Longhorn, Limited and Tungsten versions. Its power is 540 horsepower, and its torque is 521 pound-feet.

We find ourselves down 162 horsepower and 129 pound-feet of torque compared to the TRX. However, the manufacturer mentions that the 2025 Ram 1500 RHO will be able to complete the sprint from 0 to 97 kilometers/hour in 4.6 seconds, which would only be 0.1 second slower than a 2024 Ram TRX.

However, even if it does not use an exclusive engine, the Ram 1500 RHO stands out from the other versions of the range on the technical side. Underneath the vehicle, a unique long-travel suspension with adaptive dampers is paired with high-strength forged aluminum control arms. This allows the vehicle to have a more robust suspension and offer better travel off the beaten path.

At what price?

At this time, Canadian pricing for the 2025 Ram 1500 RHO has not been disclosed. However, in the United States, the latter has a starting price set at $69,995. This is lower than the starting price of $98,335 for the 2024 Ram TRX. If the American market is anything to go by, the RHO should therefore be less expensive than the TRX. We’ll learn more about this as we get closer to this performance version hitting the market. According to information from the manufacturer, its arrival is planned during the 3rd quarter of 2024.
