Crystal Palace have sacked Roy Hodgson due to the team’s poor form and in doing so almost certainly ended the career of one of the doyens in the football coaching profession at the moment.

The team is in 15th place in the Premier League, with only five points separating them from the relegation zone.

The club is torn apart by fan protests against the way it is managed.

The 76-year-old Hodgson is ending a second spell at the helm of Palace, his hometown club. It was there that he started as a youth player 61 years ago.

And in 2017, he finally got the job of manager there to stay at the head of the team for 4 seasons.

He took charge of Palace again 11 months ago to help save them from relegation, after which he looked as if he had stabilized the team. But results in recent weeks have been poor and fans want changes, including the manager.

German Oliver Glassner, former coach of Eintracht (Frankfurt), is the favorite to succeed him.

Hodgson has been in the profession since 1976, managing 17 club teams, including Inter and Liverpool.

He was also the coach of the national teams of England, Switzerland, Finland and the UAE.
