A strange and unexpected incident occurred on a Taiwanese train on Friday (2/2/2024). In the middle of the train, a passenger suddenly pulled the emergency brake.

According to Taiwan News, Thursday (8/2/2024), a male passenger reportedly pulled the train’s emergency brake. That’s because he overslept and missed his destination station.

As a result, the express service train called Xinziqiang that he was on stopped near Jinlun Station, Taitung, after a man named Xie pulled the emergency brake on the EMU3000 train and then got off. According to CNA, after Xie was questioned by police, he admitted that he was asleep when the train passed the station.

After reviewing the carriage surveillance video, the perpetrator’s footage was obtained and adjusted. The man, identified as 28 years old, was immediately found after the incident occurred. The police were immediately contacted by local station officers.

Hualien Branch Railway Police said that on (2/2/2024), Taiwan Railway’s 422nd train was temporarily stopped at Jinlun Station because the conductor valve in the carriage was turned by the public.

The impact of this incident was that the train was delayed for several minutes due to an unscheduled stop and resulted in several passengers being transferred to other services.

This ridiculous incident even resulted in the Ministry of Transportation being able to impose a fine from 10 thousand Taiwan Dollars or around Rp. 4.9 million, to 1 million Taiwan Dollars, or around Rp. 499 million.

Police asked the public to ask for help from train conductors if they pass a train stop, instead of using the emergency brake.
